Mantz was one of 280 community college students from across the U.S. (one of five from Kansas) to be part of the NASA College Aerospace Scholars (NCAS) on-site experience at NASAs Johnson Space Center this summer.
Since I was little, I have always been fascinated by the stars and caught myself wondering what is out there, 91勛圖厙 Sophomore Raley Mantz said.

91勛圖厙 County Upward Bound (BCUB) harvested 3,267 vegetables through the first season of its community garden. The project began with BCUBs student-run leadership committee which allows students to generate ideas for activities and events for the year.

Shielded Metal Arc Welding classes will be offered 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday evenings at Lyons High School beginning on Wednesday, August 22 and will conclude on December 12. Timothy Slupski, an experienced welder of more than 20 years, will teach the class. The total cost of the course is $336.

What were you wearing? is an art installation on display in the 91勛圖厙 County Court House lobby through Aug. 17 and at the Great Bend Library through Aug. 24. The show will continue its time in Great Bend at 91勛圖厙 in the upper level of the Student Union September 7-24.

First as usual, a drought update is in order.泭 Again, nothing after 8 a.m. this past Tuesday is included.泭 Not much has changed with the western half of Kansas mostly out of drought conditions, this area in moderate drought, and the eastern half of the state, especially in the central Flint Hills in extreme and exceptional drought.泭 Todays topic isnt about red or white wine but red or white wheat.泭 You may have heard of white wheat but what is it and why should we plant it?

The 91勛圖厙 Theatre Department will hold open auditions for its fall production of Harvey from 4-6 p.m. Aug. 20 and 21 in the Fine Arts Auditorium, or by arrangement with Theatre Director Dr. Rick Abel. Those who wish to audition can show up anytime during the allotted hours on either night. The Theatre Department will be casting all roles and all technical positions. No preparation is necessary, and all are invited to audition.

Trails End Lodge, a small hunting lodge at Camp Aldrich, caught fire early Friday morning.
There were no injuries. The camp was not in use at the time.
The Camp Ranger noticed the flames when he stepped outside to start his day at about 5 a.m. The Claflin Fire Department responded to the call.
Vice President of Administration Mark Dean said the cause is unknown and the Fire Marshal had not yet been on the scene as of 8:30 a.m.
