91�Թ��� art students received recognition at this year’s Student Exhibition at the Shafer Gallery on April 20. The exhibit will run through May 5. Those interested in experiencing the art can visit the Shafer Gallery 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

The reception included an awards ceremony where award-winning art students received gift certificates for art supplies.

Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT) are known as the “diagnostic detectives” of medicine. They perform a wide range of laboratory tests including microscopic examination of blood, identification of bacteria and viruses and other laboratory testing that can lead to the diagnosis of diseases such as AIDS, diabetes, and cancer. A hospital’s ability to help patients relies heavily on skilled MLTs running tests and analyzing results.

About 150 high school students from the surrounding area gathered at 91�Թ��� for the first Culture Day, an event for attending high school students to learn about the cultures from their foreign language courses. Students participated in workshops ranging from soccer and dance to learning about Spanish art and the impact of geography on the culture in Central and South America.

The 91�Թ��� Music Department awards 12 scholarships every year at about $3,000 each and 20 performance awards for non-music major students, which enables them to participate in ensembles. This could not be done without the community’s support of the annual Music Endowment Concert set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3 in the Fine Arts Auditorium. The suggested minimum donation is $5 at the door per person. The event is free for 91�Թ��� students.

91�Թ��� will present a student recital at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 26 in the Dorothy Moses Morrison Chapel, located in the Fine Arts Building, F-157. The recital is free and open to the public.

She is one of two students in the state of Kansas awarded as an outstanding student by the KSCLS. Instructor input, grades, ability to perform and the addition she plans to make to the profession are all taken into consideration by the KSCLS.

91�Թ��� Theatre Director Dr. Rick Abel premiered the Original Play Series at 91�Թ��� last year, and in light of its success, he is bringing it back as an annual theatre event. The Second Annual Original Play Series one-night performance is at 7:30 p.m. on April 26 in the Fine Arts Auditorium. Admission is free.

91�Թ��� art students work will line the walls of the Shafer Art Gallery during the BCC Student Art Exhibit April 20 through May 5.

There will be a reception and awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 20 which will include a juror’s talk and refreshments.

Shafer Art Gallery Director Dave Barnes said the student exhibit is a wonderful opportunity for students to gain experience as professional artists.
