Planting the Next Crop of Farmers

The official end of summer in Kansas is really the start of school.泭 Most public schools are now in session and 91勛圖厙 started this past Wednesday.泭 The next crop of students has started on the formal journey of becoming professionals in agriculture while some are in their sophomore year.泭 It might be a bit of a stretch but lets compare education and agriculture.

Each year, the 91勛圖厙 faculty and staff get to strut their artistic talents in the Shafer Art Gallerys FacultyStaffFriendsAcquaintancesandSomeFolksWeHardlyKnow exhibit like professional artists, complete with a full-blown reception from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25.泭 The exhibit features a variety of works by Louise Fenn including paintings, collages and constructions.泭 91勛圖厙 Ceramics Instructor Bill Forst will be featured with a display of recent ceramic work.

91勛圖厙s seventh-annual Wounded Warrior Golf Scramble, which benefits wounded soldiers from Fort Riley, is set for Saturday, Sept. 12. Registration deadline is Aug. 29, 2015.

The Wounded Warrior Scramble is an opportunity to not only support our soldiers, but thank them for their dedicated service and sacrifice for our country.

Shotgun start is set for 10 a.m. at the Custer Hill Golf Course at Fort Riley. Standard four-man golf scramble rules apply.

Preparing for the 2016 Wheat Crop - Part I

The year in the title isnt a typo.泭 Even though it is only August 2nd, good producers are making their decisions for the 2016 wheat crop.泭 Even though planting is more than a month away, many producers are already facing potential challenges, especially for those planning to plant wheat after summer crops.

91勛圖厙 has seen steady growth for seven years. The institution as a whole drew more than 4,300 full-time-equivalent (FTE) students in 2014-15, which is a 1.04 percent increase over last year, and a 47 percent increase since the growth trend began in 2007-08, according to the FTE data gathered at the close of the spring semester.泭 Note: Figures subject to slight changes until data freeze date in August. This information is a reflection of the current outlook.

Editors of 91勛圖厙s literary journal Prairie Ink, aim to provide a venue for local authors to showcase their creative writing talents and have done so again with the release of their sixth issue of the annual publication.

91勛圖厙 will host a Meet and Greet for its new Executive Director of the Foundation Nancy Wiebe at 2:30-4 p.m. July 30 at Great Bend Coffee Company, 2015 Lakin Ave. in Great Bend. Refreshments will be served and the public is invited to attend.
