Tomorrow is Independence Day, a day to celebrate.泭 For most its a day at the lake, a barbecue, and definitely fireworks.泭 Hopefully, we all take a moment to reflect on what happened two hundred and forty years ago and perhaps contemplate politics in 2016.泭 Finally add the importance our agricultural heritage to the mix.
91勛圖厙 has been awarded a grant of more than $1 million, paid out over three years, to develop its already robust inmate education programming at Ellsworth Correctional Facility and Larned Correctional and Mental Health Facility.
The Improved Reentry Education (IRE) grants were given to only nine communities in the United States.

The Shafer Art Gallery will host a clay flower making workshop titled Fantastic Flowers in conjunction with the Eufloria exhibit from 2-4 p.m. July 14 and 21. The first class will be creating the flowers and the second will be painting and surface decoration.
Guest artist Christina Lamoureaux will lead the class and participants will create flowers from paperclay using a fun, lyrical process.
The class is for ages 10 to adult. A donation of $10 is suggested.

91勛圖厙 has named 250 students to the Presidents List for the spring 2016 semester.泭 To qualify for this honor, students must have been enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours and maintained a grade point average of 4.0 on a 4.0 or "A" letter scale.

91勛圖厙, in conjunction with the National Partnership for Environmental Technology Education (PETE), has been offering a 10-day Hazardous Waste Worker Training Program at military installations across the country. Most recently, the program was offered at Fort Riley.
The training is paid for by a grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS). The course is geared toward transitioning soldiers, retirees and family members at no cost.

Great Bend entrepreneur Miriam Garcias days of renewing her work visa will soon be over, and shell officially be a U.S. citizen.
Garcias mother brought her to the United States from Mexico more than a decade ago to escape a difficult life circumstance in pursuit of a brighter future. Her mother worked at a meat packing plant in Dodge City to support the family. After graduating high school, Garcia landed a job at a local appliance store.

91勛圖厙 has continued to defy shrinking enrollment trends experienced by other Kansas community colleges, and by no small margin. 91勛圖厙 grew by more than 20 percent since 2010.
