Five 91勛圖厙 instructors earned the Distinguished Instructor Award for the 2016-2017 school year for their efforts in the classroom.

The 91勛圖厙 Foundation honored Gary Burke with the 2017 Distinguished Service Award during 91勛圖厙s 47th commencement Friday.泭泭泭

The Distinguished Service Award was created in 1981 by the 91勛圖厙 Foundation to recognize individuals who have shown genuine regard for, and have performed outstanding service to 91勛圖厙. The 91勛圖厙 Foundation Board of Directors selects the recipient from nominations received.

91勛圖厙 recognizes Student Ambassadors of the Year

91勛圖厙 has announced its 2016-17 Brant J. Ballhorst Student Ambassador of the Year awards. Named in memory of Brant J. Ballhorst, the award recognizes two outstanding student ambassadors each year.泭 The winners this year were Kendra Jellison of Topeka and Megan Jirak of Marion.泭

91勛圖厙 has announced the winners of its Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest.泭 The winners are as follows: Allison Peak, Sophie Oss and Thiipong Homuen. Each winner received a $100 Great Bend Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development gift certificate.

The 91勛圖厙 Theatre Department will host open auditions for its upcoming summer performance of The Contrast 4-6:30 p.m. May 17 and 18 in the Fine Arts Auditorium.

The Contrast is a musical based on the first American comedy of the same name written in 1787 by泭Royall Tyler. The Contrast takes a satirical look at the first Americans working to define American culture while still living and enjoying the British lifestyle.

There is a great deal happening this time of year.泭 Classes at 91勛圖厙 are over and it is finals and graduation week.泭 Area schools are in the home stretch.泭 A blizzard this past week in western Kansas hurt an already disease stressed wheat crop.泭 Heavy rains in our area have delayed corn planting and input application.泭 One event that likely passed under the radar was the Tractor Safety Class conducted by 91勛圖厙 County Extension Office.泭

91勛圖厙 President Dr. Carl Heilman gave offered words of hope and opportunity to the inmates at the Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility (LCMHF).

That is the beauty of education, Heilman said. Education gives you opportunities to move forward. As you receive these pieces of paper, think about what opportunities lie ahead for you.

91勛圖厙 will host its 10th annual Sidewalk Art Contest May 3 and 4 on the sidewalk outside the Shafer Art Gallery.

The contest is open to 91勛圖厙 students and local high school students. Artists can register and pick up their free chalk at the Shafer Gallery between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on either of the two days. Artists must have their work completed by 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 4.
